The Smart Soul Food program, started by Councilwoman Ellen Robertson and UGK Community First, provides nutrition and cooking education to the Richmond community.
UGK Community First was established in March 2020, after The Underground Kitchen, a popular roving dining company, had to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeing a need for nutritious, homemade meals and support for those in the struggling restaurant industry, UGK-CF stepped in to help.
Our organization provides chef-made meals to food-insecure children, families, and seniors, while also considering the diverse needs of different cultures and dietary restrictions. UGK-CF is dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in the culinary world, including chefs and industry workers of color, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals, promoting inclusivity and community spirit.
